Contributing to the Historic Restoration of Nightingale Quarter Derby
As a Derbyshire based business, we were deeply honoured to collaborate with Wavensmere Homes on the award winning restoration of Derby’s iconic Pepperpots building. Part of a major development project that’s creating a new and exciting place to live in the heart of Derby City Centre.
About The Nightingale Quarter
The Wavensmere Nightingale Quarter in Derby is a large regeneration project transforming the former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site into a new neighbourhood. The site includes 925 beautiful houses and a £35m apartment block with homes available to buy or rent. And that’s not all. This new living space also features six acres of green open space, cycle paths, an outdoor children’s play area and an outdoor gym for community use.
This hub of opportunity cements Derby’s status as one of the best cities to live in the UK, thanks in part to its central location, incredible transport links and easy access to Birmingham and London. The city also boasts close relationships with huge companies such as Rolls Royce and Pendragon. This has resulted in a fast growing economy; creating opportunities for professionals, families and property investors alike.
About The Derby Pepperpots Buildings
As part of the project, the instantly recognisable pepper pot buildings from the old infirmary have been retained and converted into a community hub, including cafes, a gym and exhibition space.
Built in 1810, the Pepperpot buildings in Derby are a pair of distinctive round structures with conical roofs, resembling pepper shakers. They were originally part of the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary complex and are considered a landmark feature of the city.
The Pepperpot South was originally used as the marketing suite for Nightingale Quarter homes but will now be converted into a gym. The Pepperpot North has now been transformed into a new restaurant, cocktail bar and cafe. It opened in February 2024 and offers a modern dining experience with a focus on locally sourced Derbyshire ingredients

A Wonderful Addition to a Vibrant City
What’s so special about this project is that it brings new residents to the area, increasing demand for local businesses and services. The construction itself has also created jobs and injected money into the local economy. With over 95% of the homes now sold, we look forward to seeing the Nightingale Quarter thrive as a diverse community. Becoming a hopeful and joyful space where residents can connect and engage with the surrounding green spaces and social hub of The Pepperpot restaurant for many years to come.
